Residents of Bootle can look forward to free pleasure trips on pedaloes following their introduction to the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

The four swan-shaped vessels, which will grace the waters at weekends, include one sponsored by Evolve (pictured with staff and residents), the neighbourhood regeneration partnership based in Bootle’s Queens Bedford housing market renewal area.

Evolve lent their name to the swan in order to show the potential for using the canal and its waterfront for recreational purposes.

Paula Thompson, neighbourhood investment manager at Evolve, said: ‘Projects like this all add to the sense of vibrancy in the area and within the local community.’

The swan pedaloes are part of the Art for Places programme, currently being delivered in the South Sefton area.

The project contributes towards a region-wide programme aiming to promote use of the arts to support sustainable regeneration across Housing Market Renewal areas.

It is being delivered through a partnership of local housing associations, NewHeartlands and the Arts Council England North West.
