A housing provider has launched a new course to help prevent young people in Oxfordshire from becoming homeless.

A2Dominion, a not for profit organisation, will show films exploring the experiences of homeless people in the area and encourage participants to talk about stereotypes of rough sleepers.

They will also take part in ‘value exercises’ to rate the importance of having shelter to other things in their life.

A2Dominion is looking for youth groups, schools and colleges to participate after the course was piloted successful last month.

Homeless people living at A2Dominion’s Simon House hostel, Oxford, will help run the scheme and will talk about their experiences of rough sleeping.

Simon House resident Nigel Pollard said: ‘Before I started getting housing and support from A2Dominion I was in a bad way, taking drugs, committing crimes and sleeping rough.

‘Since moving into Simon House I feel like my life has turned a corner and that I have a future again.

‘I think that this homelessness awareness project is brilliant and that if something like it had been available to me when I was at school then maybe I wouldn't have ended up homeless.’
