Manchester initiative pledges ideas and action

A growing network of nearly 200 individuals from the business, academic, cultural, public and third sector communities have joined together to tackle issues facing Greater Manchester.

The Innovation Manchester Boardroom is intended to be an ‘ideas and action’ forum.

It is hoped the initiative will become a ‘conduit for problem-solving and fresh and original thinking’, enabling Manchester to tackle the economic, social and environmental challenges of the next 20 years.

‘Champions’ from within the network will be encouraged to use their expertise to drive forward the best ideas.

Innovation manager, Kate Pickering, said: ‘Manchester has always inspired an incredible sense of civic ownership amongst its many stakeholders and has a proud tradition of people from all walks of life helping to shape its identity.

‘We want to capitalise on the wealth of knowledge and creativity that exists across the conurbation to tackle a range of 21st century challenges.’

The concept evolved from Innovation Manchester programme, which brought business and civic leaders together and also led to a series of groundbreaking pilot programmes supporting skills development and graduate retention in the city.
