What
is New Start?
New
Start is the first choice weekly news magazine in the UK for all
involved in community regeneration. It was first published on 5
February 1999. It exists to provide news, comment and analysis for all
concerned with regeneration, physical, economic and social, and to
stimulate debate and discussion of policy.
New
Start is totally independent, both editorially and commercially. Its
founding directors, Kath Acres, Julian Dobson and Jamie Veitch, have a
long track record in journalism and publishing. As well as providing
up-to-the-minute editorial content, New Start is a prime source of job
opportunities in regeneration through its recruitment advertising
pages. It has a weekly circulation of around 14,500 copies. Comments
and feedback are always welcome.

are keen to develop partnerships with other organisations that share
our aims and values. For example, we work closely with the Joseph
Rowntree Foundation, Community Action Network, the British Urban
Regeneration Association and the Institution of Economic Development.
Who
do I send news to?
News
items should be sent to the editor, Julian Dobson. You can telephone
our newsdesk direct on 0114 281 6133, or email news@newstartmag.co.uk.
While
we endeavour to provide as comprehensive a news service as possible,
many items we receive are never used. Our aim is to use material that
is of interest to as wide a range of our readers as possible. We do not
acknowledge receipt of material or return it unless specifically
requested.
What
are your deadlines?
We
go to press at 1pm on Wednesday afternoons and the magazine is
published every Friday. However, editorial pages are produced
throughout the week and space is very limited on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays. Letters to the editor should be received by 10am on
Tuesdays.
Recruitment
advertising should be received by 10am on Wednesday. Display
advertising should be booked a week prior to publication, and artwork
should be with us by 10am on Wednesday.
Material
for features needs to be with us at least seven days before
publication, but should be discussed in advance with the editor.
What
sort of pictures do you accept?
We
accept good quality colour or black and white photographs, but cannot
guarantee publication. Colour photographs should ideally be sent
digitally, by email to production@newstartmag.co.uk
Please speak to our production editor, Tim Mawdsley, first.
Pictures
are normally published on the basis that first British rights to
publication rest with New Start, and that prints and photographic
material will remain the property of New Start Publishing Ltd unless
otherwise agreed.
